Itinerary

Private Tour to Matmata and Douz

Early departure from your selected hotel in Djerba towards Ajim port to take the ferry to the mainland. After crossing the Jorf Strait, we continue towards the desert of Douz and the Dhahar massif with its amazing Berber villages.
Arrival to Matmta, amazing troglodyte village with its beautiful underground houses dug into the mountainsides following a well-studied and traditional architectural techniques. We will be invited by a Berber family to discover the components of the house and the daily lifestyle of rural women.
Then, we continue crossing the Dhahar mountain range with its beautiful landscapes till Douz, an oasis city at the gates of the Sahara. Visit the local market place (every Thursday the weekly Souk is organized which brings together all the Bedouin and Nomadic populations of the region, where they still barter merchandise and livestock.
Departure to the superb fine sand dunes where you can admire a magnificent Saharan landscape with possibility to enjoy a camel ride and (Optional). Typical lunch in Douz to savor a rich and generous menu of local gastronomy.
After lunch, drive back with a stopover at Tamezret, an ancient Berber village built on a Dhahar mountain which overlooks a magnificent landscape. Wander tour through the narrow alleys till the small white mosque at the top of the village, visit to the small museum of the traditional Berber dresses woven by the women of the village.
We continue to Matmata and visit to the Sidi Driss troglodyte hotel which has been used as the filming location for the “Star Wars” movie.
Departure to Toujane, a Berber village of sublime beauty, nestled in a mountainous landscape which offers a surprising view.
Return to Djerba, arrival at your hotel and end of our service.
