Itinerary of the exciting cultural tour in Tunisia

DAY 1:ARRIVAL TO TUNIS

Arrival at Tunis airport, assistance by the tour guide and then transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at Royal Victoria Hotel 4*.

DAY 2:THE COAST OF THE ANCIENT CARTHAGE

After breakfast, the cultural tour begins at the National Bardo Museum, a former residence for the Ottoman Monarchs which houses the largest collection of Roman mosaics in the world.

After the visit, lunch at La Goulette, an old Italian quarter during the French colonial era, where the Franco-Italian actress Claudia Cardinale was born.

In the afternoon, visit Carthage ruins, the ancient capital of the Punic empire.

Visit the Tophet, an ancient Carthaginian sanctuary dedicated to the most worshipped Gods Tanit and Baal Hamon.

Explore the ancient Punic harbors which housed the commercial and military fleet of Carthage.

Visit The Byrsa hill the ancient residential quarter of Carthage, the early Christian museum, the Roman villas, the theater, the amphitheater, and the thermal baths of the emperor Antoninus.

Drive to visit Sidi Bou Saïd, the Moorish village with its beautiful houses painted in blue and white with their balconies typically decorated with arabesque.

Return to Tunis city, have dinner, and overnight at the Royal Victoria 4* hotel.

DAY 3:THE MAJESTIC DOUGGA AND BULLA REGIA RUINS

After breakfast, the cultural tour continues to Bulla Regia, an ancient Numidian principality from the second century that was part of the kingdom of Massinissa, the enemy of the Romans.

It was the romanization of the city that left us with most of the current vestiges still preserved now.

Wonderful underground houses whose ground is richly covered by Roman mosaics.

Arrival at the site and a guided visit to the ruins: the hunting house, the Amphitrite house, the thermal baths, the theater, the forum, etc.

Drive to Tebersuk village for lunch, then Dougga, the ancient Thugga the best and more preserved archaeological site in all of  Tunisia, declared a World Heritage site.

Visit the: Theatre, the Capitol, the Wind’s Rose Square, the market, the Forum, the residential quarters, winter and summer baths, the Numidian mausoleum, the latrine, etc.

Return to Tunis city, have dinner, and overnight at the Royal Victoria 4* hotel.

DAY 4:THE BYZANTINE RUINS OF SBEITLA

Breakfast at the hotel and the cultural tour continues to Thuburbo Majus, one of the most important Roman sites in Tunisia, with many impressive monuments.

Visit the ancient ruins: the forum with Corinthian columns, the Capitol temple dedicated to Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, the Temple of Mercury, Summer Baths, the Palaestra of the Petronii, the Winter Baths, temple dedicated to Baal, the sanctuary of Caelestis, which was later converted into a church.

Drive to Makthar, an ancient Numidian fortress before it was inhabited by Punic refugees after the destruction of Carthage.

Visit the impressive Roman ruins of the ancient Maktaris: the Trajan Arch, the Forum, the amphitheater, the baths, the « Schola of Juvenes », etc.

Lunch on the way, then in the afternoon, departure to Sbeitla, visit the ruins of the ancient Byzantine city Sufeitula with its well-preserved monuments such as the Dioclitien arc, the Baths, the Theater, the basilicas, the Forum, the Capitol, the baptistery, etc.

Dinner and overnight at Byzance Hotel 4* in Sbeitla.

DAY 5:THE HOLY CITY AND THE ROMAN AMPHITHEATER

After breakfast, get ready for an exciting cultural tour in Kairouan, the fourth holy city of Islam and the first Arab-Muslim city in Tunisia declared world heritage, and visit the city and its ancient monuments.

Visit the Aghlabid basins, old water reserves that fed the entire city.

Explore  the Abu Zoumaa Al Balaoui Mausoleum called Sid Sahib or the Barber.

Visit the Great Mosque of Okba, the oldest mosque in Tunisia.

Wander in the Medina and explorer the giant walls and traditional Souks.

Lunch on the way and departure to El Djem to visit the famous Roman amphitheater ranked 3rd in the world with a capacity of 35000 spectators.

Visit the archaeological museum of El Djem which houses an impressive collection of Roman mosaics.

Drive to Mahdia, a coastal city, dinner, and overnight at Mahdia Palace hotel 5* or similar.

DAY 6:THE SAHEL COAST

Breakfast at the hotel and departure to discover Mahdia.

Visit «Skifa Kahla» the entry gate of the ancient Medina, the ancient Punic harbor, and the Maritime Cemetery.

Drive to Monastir and visit Ribat, an ancient Arabic fortress from the 8th century.

Visit Habib Bourguiba mausoleum first president and founder of the Tunisian Republic.

Drive to Sousse, the capital of Sahel province in central coastal Tunisia, and have lunch.

In the afternoon, a visit to the ancient Medina declared World Heritage.

Departure to El Kantaoui harbor and visit to the Marina Port El Kantaoui.

Drive to Hammamet and visit the ancient Medina at the seaside.

Dinner and overnight at Mehari Hammamet 5* hotel or similar. 

DAY 7:THE CAP BON PENINSULA

After breakfast, departure to the discovery of Cap Bon peninsula.

Visit Nabeul city with its workshops on traditional pottery.

Drive to Kelibia and visit the majestic Byzantine fortress from the fifth century.

Departure to Kerkouene historical punic city destroyed in the 310 B-C and declared Word Heritage. Then, visit the ruins with the famous houses at the seaside.

Drive to El Haouaria for lunch next to the ancient Punic underground sandstone quarries (The visit inside the quarries is suspended for security reasons for fear of collapse).

Drive to Korbous, a charming village, perched on a hill and known since antiquity as a natural spa with high quality.

Its sulfurous and chlorinated hot springs are beneficial to treat several skin diseases.

Departure to Tunis, dinner, and overnight at Royal Victoria 4* hotel.

DAY 8:END OF THE TRIP

After breakfast, transfer to the International Tunis Carthage airport for the return flight.
